Always an Excuse
Yes, it was Fri's birthday weekend... and unfortunately she was on the other side of the globe to celebrate it. However!! That is where she is happy at the moment, and all power to her!
It has officially been summer for over a week now, and Summer of Teresa is not exactly living up to its hype. Tie in the fact that I've been tired as... Well, so tired I can't even think of a good simile to the latter sentence. Anyway, hopefully things will start picking up; I am looking for a new activity that involves meeting new people. Any suggestions?
Ahh, laziness... what I meant to be writing about today... there's always an excuse for being lazy. Like, I wore white socks and red shoes to the market today, which complemented my ensemble of black shirt and khaki pants very snappily I thought... normally I have a thing against people (including myself) wearing white socks in any shoes that aren't runners... but today I didn't care. The only time you can break this rule is (a) if you are wearing boots or (b) your pants are long enough to hide them. As far as I'm concerned, NO ONE should wear white socks unless they are wearing casual shoes. (And even then it's open to interpretation.)
Speaking of 'interpretation'... went to Mass today in Mission <gasp>... on my own... well, with Niko... after which Niko happened to mention how surprised he was at all the people who were going up for Communion (myself included) even though they hadn't been to Confession prior. "No way all those people could have been to Confession right before Mass," he explained. At his Croatian church you wouldn't get away with that kind of stuff. Apparently. I was like, well, I don't really have a defence to that, although there is that asking-for-forgiveness part at the beginning of Mass. Niko: "But it's not absolution!" Me: "Well that is open to interpretation!" Niko: "But it's not supposed to be!" Ahh, Catholicism. Always an excuse.
Interesting thing of note: today, without realizing it, was my parents' anniversary. (They would have been married 29 years today). When we were at Mass they were celebrating the feast of St. Peter and St. Paul. This rang a little bell in me because I also realized that my parents got married at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Vancouver... and didn't put two and two together until today. Apparently my dad had planned it that way! Neat.

June Babies
I forgot to mention Sarah's birthday last weekend in which I had gotten her this way cool jacket from the GAP, and Mimi and my mom ended up pitching in for it as well. I was quite proud of myself, I should have had someone like me back when I turned 16...
Anyway, today is St. Jean-Baptiste Day in Quebec... which I will not likely forget because it's also the birthday of my friend Samantha and my cousin Dylan (pictured in previous postings). Sam's out in St. Catharines I believe, teaching and working on her Masters (I got a reply from the birthday e-mail I sent today); and well, Dylan is two. So not quite up to speed on getting his Masters yet. Maybe a Masters in potty training... but whatever.
Fri's birthday is on Saturday!

Hello Summer!!
So the "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye" party went off without a hitch... even the weather cooperated this time!! For the uninitiated, this party was doing double duty, celebrating the beginning of summer and marking the good-bye to Junko and David, who are off to England tonight. I thought it went off pretty well; we had enough food (woo, more than enough!) and drink (woo!) and it looks like mostly everyone had a good time. Some highlights:
.: pre-party, throwing out my back (pulling a muscle or something) while cleaning, which resulted in me, every so often, screaming out in pain for no reason during the night
.: the weather, absolutely great even though the day before looked dubious
.: everyone arriving at 8, when the invitation said 6
.: Brit's diabetes cake (chocolate cake with chocolate icing and twinkie topping)
.: meeting Lena's China friends (Sean, Martin, Andrea, Larry)
.: Dan Lerer, always entertaining
.: Meat-on-a-stick
.: An Incident in the back yard that caused Marko to leave early...
.: Trevor's younger brother's band, The Midgets, causing a bit of mayhem in the backyard at the end of the night (shotgunning a few beers, wrestling and being really really loud, and our neighbouts laughing at them)
.: my margaritas (all mine!) and sharing the Pineapple Fluff (Brit: "It's like an orgasm in my mouth!")
.: miraculous clean-up the next morning
Pictures on Terra 1ncognita will be up soon.

Quiz me
Work is keeping me plenty busy. Damn SARS and Asian tour operators who keep sending cancellation notices. Quizzes are fun. Even though most of them are inconsequential, some of them can tell you a bit about yourself that you didn't know. Like, yeah, I know I am fabulous and all that... but did you know that if I were a swear word it would be "Asshole"? No, really! I won't bother linking that site cuz I can't remember where it is... but that is the truth.
I will also stop replying to those "getting to know you" e-mails until someone changes the questions. I agree with Fri - the question about the stems of broccoli is stupid and unnecessary. You know, I think I made up an alternate survey with different questions once... I have no idea if I saved it or not. Anyway I guess I have cracked... no more mass survey e-mails for me. Unless they are really worth answering. But for now I'm going to work at living up to my swear word type-cast.

Well that's nice...
...I should think so. At least, I should hope so. Makes me feel slightly better about people whose actions I just fail to understand.

More annoying quizzes
I rated myself and got a 39... "moderately annoying... nothing to be concerned about but have room for improvement." Great.
How annoying are you?

Just testing...
Let me know if you can see the picture below... should be of my cousin Dylan.
If this works, and I have done what I set out to do properly, then I should be able, from now on, to add pictures to the blog.
Also, if your cursor turns into a hand over the picture, then the link should work, too. Yeah, me! Technology rocks! (This learning curve is steep!!)

Peasant Class
You know how the new fashion craze are these 'peasant' blouses? Kind of loose fitting, cotton shirts? Anyway, not too long ago I bought one, just because I, like apparently many others, liked the style of them.
Minor insights - (1) Because it is loose-fitting you kinda could be mistaken for being pregnant. (2) It also resembles a Filipino Barong. Except that it's not woven with banana fibres.

Buy my love
...if only it were that easy!! Heheh. Met the new Mr. Junko Fukuhara this past weekend, and played tourguide all weekend. It was a good time! I realized that for people that have spent little or no time in Vancouver I could very well make up stuff, and they'd believe me. David sure did! Well, not like I made stuff up... I may have misquoted a few facts but they were probably not important. Like the fact that the San Andreas fault ends in English Bay. Muahaha.
If it was a good time to play tour guide it was not the best time for me to be on my feet. Let's see. On Friday when I went rollerblading I pulled a muscle or something in my toe, while it was still in the rollerblade... so I had to stop and massage it out... and then about thirty seconds later my other leg seized with a cramp... had to pull out on to a set of stairs and wait out the pain while Lena looked on, concerned, asking me if she should go and get the car. At that point I was in quite a bit of pain... not so much embarrassed with all the other people walking/blading past who also were wiping out (but at least didn't have leg and foot cramps!!). Lena said she'd probably be half an hour so I let her go... but about ten minutes later my pain subsided and I had two choices: sit and wait, or bust my ass to Science World. I chose the latter just because earlier I had complained to Lena and Tanya that they were wimps for not wanting to rollerblade further. I motored all the way from the Granville Bridge to Science World in about 12 minutes with the worry that I would miss Lena and Tanya and they'd drive off to find me and get lost. And I didn't have my cell phone with me either. But as luck would have it (or the fact that I went as fast as I could), I caught up to the two of them before they even reached the car. (Tanya technically reached the car first, using it as a brake-stop - hee hee).
So that was feet problem #1 of the weekend. Problem #2: Next day while out showing off Vancouver with Junko for David, we went to Spanish Banks and I got a weird sand rash on my foot. Problem #3: tripped and fell on UNEVEN pavement on 4th Avenue. Problem #4: more tripping on various UNEVEN surfaces in Whistler.
David Musson is cool. That is Junko's fiancé. He just got back from Kuwait and rushed here to whisk the JuFu off to England for a year. He has quite a heavy Birmingham accent which makes it hard to understand him sometimes, so I kinda felt bad having to ask him to repeat something several times like I didn't understand English or something. Anyway, buddy kept insisting on paying for drinks and lunch and even gave me a Coldplay interview CD as well as the Coupling first season DVD. So he's pretty high up on the cool points factor. And I thought I would try and be impressive by driving them around in a clean car.
We went up to Whistler yesterday for the day. I let Niko drive. It was a white knuckle experience.
Oh yeah, since Junko and David are leaving on June 22, the good-bye party is on the 21st. At my house. Good-bye and Hello party that is; Good-bye Junko and David, Hello Summer Party ("Say hello, good bye..."). Wow, it couldn't have worked more perfectly! Anyway if you read this blog you're obviously invited. E-vites will be out shortly.

Coldplay pics up!!!
I'm not trying to be pasty, it's just that flourescent lighting can't be that great for my skin. However, when it gets really hot I will NOT curse the air conditioning. I've been to places without it... sometimes it ain't pretty.
Anyway, like the title says, my Coldplay pics are up now, after a minor delay. Good times.

A Drama Free Day
I hope...
It is so nice and sunny today, I am stuck in my air conditioned office... which is a good thing, or should be, in the long run... however I fear all this lack of sunlight is going to keep me pasty all summer. And pasty is not a good thing!!
One more thing I've discovered... pretty much all the clothes I've purchased in the last two years are now too big for me. Like, falling-off-me too big. And it's not like I've been actively trying to lose weight, I have the sneaking suspicion that it's because I've been sick for the last few months. Hmm.
My mother is going to the Philippines in August. Which means... party!!! No. But we'll see what kind of mischief we can get into while she's gone. She's going with a couple other relatives (not 20 like last year) for a vacation/wedding. Fun, all around. However she did mention to me that they were going to visit some of the other islands like Mindoro or other places that the Superferry travels. Which made bells go off for me, cuz I'd heard about these superferries and a few of the accidents they've been in - most recently as a couple weeks ago, where they've collided with regular ferries which were overcrowded and well, wooden. My mom was like, no problem, we're on the bigger ferry, it won't be crowded! Little consolation if the boat actually does collide with another boat. Anyway, if you check out the WG&A Superferries website for their vessels, you'll notice that their pictures have an animated feature of shimmering water. The effect works, to some degree, but if you ask me some of those ferries look like they are ready to keel over. May just be the imaging...
Besides, why take a 30-hour (well maybe I'm exaggerating) ferry ride when you can fly to Mindoro in an hour? (From Manila) For the same price!!!

Comments are fun
Fri, my mentor and inspiration, who not only inspired me to start my own Postcards page, but also to add a comments link. Just because I, personally, could do with some internet abuse.
Anyway, care of Enetation, I now have comments. Look up at the line of today's date/time; there should be a link referring to charting territory of some sort.
And, from the main page, there is always the guestbook!
(I went link-crazy on this post. Oh well.)

Attention Whore
Check out Fri's site. The last few entries (and their comments) are hilarious. Basically some guy (or more than one, can't really tell) has accessed Fri's site and insulted her for trying to contact an ex-boyfriend of hers. In all fairness, there's nothing fundamentally wrong with trying to contact your ex, if enough time has passed and you're 'over it'... but if the other party is not willing, so be it, right? So the ex doesn't respond back to Fri - there may be a million reasons for that - technological reasons as well as emotional. Point is, Fri put her thoughts online as more of a rhetorical question than a seeking of answers.
But this dumbass (plural?) accuses Fri of being dense and seeking attention from someone who OBVIOUSLY doesn't want to talk to her... from Dumbass' point of view anyway. Fri responds with humour, only to incite Dumbass' rage further. He even goes as far as insulting her grammar (way to go, sarcastic "ain't").
Which leads us to the following question: who is the attention whore here? Fri, who has her own site up to fulfill her own attention whore-ish needs, or Dumbass, who seems to wander from site to site insulting people because of their random comments, garnering a lot more response than what the original comment was worth?
Post your comments here.
PS:: Coldplay up soon. Working on it. Need an evening to myself.
